Traditional Icelandic Pancake Pan with Wooden Handle
Traditional Icelandic pancake pan, called a Pönnukökur pan, has been produced since 1950 in Iceland. The pan has a flat, round cooking surface with shallow indentations, perfect for making thin pancakes similar to crepes. The non-stick coating prevents batter from sticking to the surface, allowing for effortless flipping and removal of delicate pancakes.
The Icelandic pancakes are usually served rolled up with sugar (granulated or brown sugar and icing sugar) and rolled up, or filled with jam, folded into quarters and serve with whipped cream and are enjoyed as a sweet treat or snack in Iceland. They are good either warm or cold.
